The welkin of the summer sang a color out of dunes

That's the subject line of a recent email from my Brother Ben (BB). For some reason, though we are 6 years apart and didn't even get along until I graduated from high school, BB knows what music sends me sailing. He introduced me to some of my forever favorites ... Indigo Girls, Be Good Tanyas, Sea & Cake.

And now, comes this (and if you haven't heard, you should!) ... Bon Iver: For Emma, Forever Ago. It's the most haunting, beautiful, I-can't-stop-listening-to-it wonderful thing ever (at least until my next great find). If anyone decides to check it out and would like a copy, I'm happy to oblige.

Something I learned from this recording:

In the song "Re: stacks" he opens with "This my excavation and today is Kumran." Kumran I asked? Yes, Kumran ... where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947. I've never read much on this subject but apparently the discovery kind of changed the course of Christianity for many people. Some ignored it; some embraced it; but whatever happened afterward was different than before because of the new information.

Grazie BB, I adore this.
